The Book of Enoch project reflects on the ethics of repatriation and the transmission of knowledge across geographies and histories. The project revisits the journey of the ancient Ethiopian manuscript, the Book of Enoch, which was taken from Ethiopia in the 18th century by the Scottish explorer James Bruce and is now held in collections such as the Bodleian Library and the British Library. Through a process of reactivation, the artist commissioned calligraphers and parchment makers from Motta, Gojam, to recreate the 300-page goatskin manuscript.

The recreated manuscripts will be returned as a donation to Daga Estifanos Monastery, marking a symbolic act of repatriation and dialogue between past and present custodians of knowledge. The Book of Enoch project questions what it means to return not only an object but also the epistemologies it carries, acknowledging the complexities of ownership, translation, and belonging.
